Glasgow's Gallus have earned a reputation as one of the up most exciting emerging bands, combining razor sharp post punk, gritty indie rock and unapologetic honesty into a sound that’s entirely their own. Fulled by biting social commentary, infectious hooks and an explosive live presence, the band continues to build momentum with every release proving they’re as compelling on a record as they are on stage
I caught up with Gallus to talk about their latest music, life on tour and what the future holds for them
How has 2000trees been for you so far?
It's been brilliant. We got here early and it's been great. We've got loads of other shows before and after this, so festivals are usually our chance to have a bit of a weekend away. It's like a little getaway.
We've managed to catch loads of bands as well. Military Gun were fantastic, Super Heaven were amazing, Bad Nerves never miss, and Pest Control were really good too.
JN: Your fanbase feels incredibly loyal. How does that feel for you?
It feels really, really nice. Last week we played another festival and we had people travel down from Glasgow to come and see us, which is just unbelievable. It makes us feel really privileged to have that kind of support. Honestly, I don't think we deserve it sometimes.
JN: I've seen loads of your T-shirts around the festival as well.
JN: What’s been keeping the band motivated recently?
This, this just makes me happy, and that's what I'm chasing. As long as it keeps making me happy, I'll keep doing it.
JN: Your music can be quite dark, but it's also really funny at times. How do you balance those two sides?
I don't really know. That's an interesting question. I think we're just naturally quite sarcastic people. Even when we're writing about heavier subjects, we always end up finding some humour in them. It's much easier to be introspective when you can laugh at yourself a little bit.
JN: You've seen loads of bands this weekend. If you could have any band on the lineup, who would it be?
That's a great question. We were actually supposed to see a few bands, but I had to go and visit family in Australia, so I missed some of them. There are loads I'd love to see here though.
JN: Have you ever had a proper fan moment meeting another musician?
Definitely. Meeting Simon Neil (Biffy Clyro) was a huge one for me. I completely lost my cool. Usually I'm alright around people, but meeting him was something else. I was absolutely starstruck.
JN: You're obviously touring all over the place. What's the most Scottish thing that's happened to you while you've been away?
It's funny because no matter where we go, there always seems to be another Scottish person there. We've played tiny villages in Germany and somehow ended up meeting someone from Paisley or somewhere nearby. It makes the world feel really small.
JN: What's next for you?
We've got a UK headline tour coming up, and we've also got a new album coming out. After that, we'll be touring the record.
JN: Will the UK tour be a headline run?
Yeah, it'll be our own headline tour.
JN:Have you announced the support acts yet?
Not yet. We're still sorting that out.
