There is an understated science to a Don Broco show, which we witnessed at the iconic Melkweg in Amsterdam, where the band proved again why they are among the most electric live acts in the alternative rock genre. Having seen them command Wembley Arena, I know they can easily produce a massive, arena-filling sound. Yet, there is something special about watching them get down and dirty in these more intimate barrier-less venues. The Bedford four-piece delivered a masterclass in high-octane performance and crowd command.
As the band took to the stage, the atmosphere was electric. The band connected directly with the front rows that were framed in a dynamic, but blinding light show that cut through the venue’s darkness. Rob Damiani might as well be a classic rock star - arms held aloft, one moment in full rock star glory, then leaning out over the edge of the stage delivering raw vocal intensity the next. He even fully threw himself into the chaos, jumping straight into the mosh pit during "True Believers."
The aggressiveness of heavy, groove-laden riffs and huge hooks marks the musicality of this performance. Simon Delaney’s laser-like focus on his guitar’s gritty execution kept the band’s chaotic energy in check. At the same time, you can feel the epic driving force coming from the rhythm section, aided by the tight drum and bass backline.
Don Broco doesn't simply play in a room; they own it. It was extremely awesome, sweaty, and noisy.
